A Truck Company Operations
class at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center instructed
by Sean O’Brien and John Lenza from Task Force 1, both of FDNY,
was hosted by Rohrerstown Fire Company on July 14 and 15. The first day
the students from Rohrerstown, Eden and Mount Joy reviewed different SOG’s
for truck companies, ways to forces roll up doors, search & rescue
tactics, and ways to vent a roof.
The class then moved into
the rescue of a downed firefighter. The class learned multiple ways to
tie harnesses with webbing and rope, tools that could be used to help remove
the firefighter, and different harnesses you can make with an air pack.
The second half of the day, members practiced what they have learned with
different scenarios in the burn building and the smoke building. Sunday
morning, each company explained what equipment they pull for RIT.
Then the crews moved and practiced
the Denver drill, also the crews then expanded on the use of haul systems
and harnesses. After lunch, the crews moved to the burn building for a
full run in drill. Units simulated a first floor building fire with one
person trapped. Engine 671 arrived as the engine company and performed
the engine company tasks. Truck 75 arrived as the first due truck and went
to work, along Truck 24 arrived and established the RIT for the scene.
The instructors simulated a firefighter down from Truck 75, placing the
RIT into service to rescue the firefighter. Click on photos to enlarge. |
