Dwelling Fires: Bread and Butter Operations
Merely based on the number of single family dwellings fires, most fire department consider them as their “bread and butter” operations.
Often under 2500 square feet, one or two stories, fires can be far from routine! Stretching a line, forcing your way in, getting a primary search underway, venting, confining and extinguishing the fire all take discipline. To make it all happen, there’s a lot of weight on the shoulders of the company officers!
In this program we will look all aspects of a dwelling fire. Before we even to that, we will take some time and ensure that your apparatus is prepared to support the tasks to be completed. We’ll also address apparatus positioning and the necessary coordination between engine and truck company operations.
From there the sound fundamental principles the will make the fire ground operate like a ‘bread and butter” operation will be addressed in several skill stations. Finally, it’s time to pull it all together with some scenario based, hands-on exercise.
This program is a must for the rookie firefighter on up to the incident command. The program can be presented as a 2 or 3 day offering!
