Big Box Store Fires
Hosted by the Channahon Fire Protection District
Class Location: 24929 S. Center Street Channahon, IL

Big boxes are basically disposable shells to cover merchandise for a relatively short period of time. This is due to retail cycles being volatile and retailers potentially needing to change location or undergo major renovations to remain competitive. Firefighters need to understand how construction methods, building systems, and content will play important roles during any firefight in these buildings.
These structures most often will have heavy fire loads, may have high rack storage and fortified rear access points. While these structures will be sprinklered, a rapidly growing fire may overtake the structure quickly.
On-going risk assessment, tactic driven strategies will be the linchpin of this program. Following an interactive classroom presentation and review of case studies, students will participate in a series of interactive scenario based training exercises involving fires in these structures.
