Big Rig Rescue – Sussex County, DE
November 9 - November 10
Big Rig Rescue
Hosted by the Sussex County Technical Rescue Team
28634 Conaway Road Ellandale, Delaware
November 9-10, 2019
8:30AM – 4:00PM
About the program:
Everyday tractor trailers, tandems and tri-axle trucks roll up and down the highways and by-ways of our country. However, be it driver error, mechanical failure or a sudden change in weather conditions, a bad day is on the way for driver and those who respond to mitigate the incident. From extremely heavy loads to hazardous materials as cargo, mishaps involving these mammoth vehicles can challenge even the most proficient rescue company!
Different from a passenger vehicle, these rigs will require extensive resources for stabilization even before an extrication can begin. This program will prepare the participant to deal with the challenges of a “big rig rescue”. Like anything else, polished fundamental skills, solid teamwork and a strong command presence is required for a successful and safe outcome.
After a short classroom presentation, students will transition to the field working in various skills stations. Eventually students will work as companies “responding” to a big rig wreck, coming together to solve complex and challenging problem in scenario-based exercises.
