Truck Chauffeur – At the Houston Fire Department’s Val Jahnke Training Facility 8030 Braniff St. in Houston.

About the program:
This program is for truck company chauffeurs. It’s goal is to prepare the chauffeur with an operational understanding of his responsibilities and his apparatus. With a mix of class room lecture and interactive exercises, followed by extensive “in the street” exercises, chauffeurs will gain a new appreciate for his role in the truck company. The student will demonstrate a working knowledge of the use and operations of aerial apparatus and role that aerial apparatus plays in both offensive and defensive truck company operations, as well getting to and from the incident safely.
Upon completion of this program the student will demonstrate a safe, defensive driving principles with aerial apparatus, aerial apparatus positioning and setup for offensive and defensive tactical operations. Also the student will participate in depth perception, raising & lowering, extending in & out, scrub of the building and rotation drills. Placement for defensive operations using aerial master streams and techniques using aerial apparatus for special operations are also incorporated in the program.
The Lead Instructor: Captain Art Ashley, Lexington (KY) Fire Department
A firefighter since 1986, Arthur has worked for the City of Lexington, Kentucky for 22 years, assigned to both engine and ladder companies throughout his career. He is currently a Captain assigned to Ladder Company 1 in downtown Lexington. A Kentucky Level II Instructor, Kentucky State Fire School instructor and an adjunct instructor with Lexington Fire Training Academy, he holds many certifications in many areas of fire, rescue and hazmat. Arthur instructs throughout the state of Kentucky and around the country specializing in hands-on training, leadership and crew management. Captain Ashley is co-creator and administrator of Truckie-Talk, a social media based training page focused on sharing training tips and highlighting the rich tradition of the fire service.
